The first of Teofilo's yearlings to reach the sales ring were put to the test at Deauville where the six sold recorded an average of €190,000 and a top price of €400,000, making the Kildangan Stud resident the leading freshman at Arqana’s August Sale.
His daughter out of Delicieuse Lady had topped the second day’s trade when selling to Sir Robert Ogden for €400,000 while an Ecurie des Monceaux-consigned son of Dubawi was the top lot on day three when fetching €240,000.
Sylvain Vidal, numerically the leading buyer at the sale, bought the Dubawi colt out of the Listed-winning Invincible Spirit mare Samya for Gerard Augustin-Normand. While his son Makfi provided the perfect advertisement by winning his second Group One race, the Prix Jacque le Marois, at the next-door La Touques racecourse, all four of Dubawi’s offspring consigned at Arqana recorded six-figure returns to give him an average of €185,000.
The stock of Shamardal was also in demand in Normandy with six yearlings fetching an average of €138,333. The top lot among those sold was a half-brother to the Poule d’Essai des Poulains-placed Shamalgan, who sold for €360,000.
Authorized and Manduro also had their first yearlings on offer in France. The former set an average of €71,000 for five sold, with Francois Doumen paying €115,000 for a half-sister to All Is Vanity. Manduro’s five yearlings to change hands did so at an average price of €62,000 with trainers Mark Johnston, Jean-Claude Rouget and Francois Doumen each selecting one of his sons.
