New Stakes winner for Halling

Longhunter lands the Blenheim Stakes; Shamardal and Cape Cross both record new G1 performers

Just two days after Halling's daughter Eastern Aria landed the G2 Park Hill Stakes, the Darley sire continued a successful week when his two-year-old son Longhunter landed the Listed Blenheim Stakes, run over six furlongs at the Curragh.

Settled off the early pace, the Kevin Prendergast-trained colt laid down his challenge once entering the final furlong and held off a strong challenge from Katia to win by a short head.

Bred by DD and Mrs Jean P Clee, Longhunter is out of the Stakes-winning Night Shift mare Dawnus.

Also at the Curragh on Saturday, Shamardal's Casamento put up a hugely impressive performance to finish second in the G1 National Stakes, beaten just a head by Pathfork.

Meanwhile at Doncaster, Corsica (Cape Cross) also posted a gutsy performance to finish third in the St Leger.
