Listed victory for Cape Cross gelding

Riggins dead-heats in Kempton’s Hyde Stakes; more black type for Exceed And Excel's Nideeb

Cape Cross six-year-old Riggins provided a dream start to the career of Ed Walker when the gelding dead-heated for first place in the Listed Hyde Stakes at Kempton to give the trainer a Stakes victory with his very first runner.

It was the fourth win and first black type success for Riggins, who was bred by Compagnia Generale SRL from the Zafonic mare Rentless. He is a half-brother to the four-time winner Landowner, by Shamardal.

The Rabbah Bloodstock-bred Nideeb, who is by Exceed And Excel and won the Listed Churchill Stakes last Saturday, was beaten just a short-head in the next race on card at Kempton, the Wild Flower Stakes, a Listed event over a mile and a half. The three-year-old colt was just outgunned by the Luca Cumani-trained Cheetah, a daughter of Tiger Hill, who is owned and was bred by the Cumanis’ Fittocks Stud.
