While Marco Botti is gearing up to running his stable star Gitano Hernando in the Dubai World Cup next month, members of his string still based in Newmarket are running well and none more so than three-year-old Librettist filly Libritish, who made an eye-catching debut under the floodlights at Wolverhampton on Friday evening
With the Polytrack having been harrowed extra deep in freezing conditions which caused unpleasant kickback, Libritish can be forgiven for running a little green after missing the start of the fillies’ maiden over an extended mile. However, she worked her way into the race gamely, making a bid for the lead from out wide on the turn and then running on strongly for a two-and-a-half-length victory in the hands of Toby Atkinson.
Bred in the UK by John James, Libritish is the third foal of Tanwir, a daughter of Unfuwain who has already produced the Group-placed filly Sakheart. Libritish’s second dam Al Amlah is a half-sister to 1,000 Guineas winner Harayir and to Waqood, the dam of another recent impressive maiden winner, Dorcas Lane.
Librettist, whose first crop runners have just turned three, is the sire of G2 July Stakes and G2 Richmond Stakes winner Libranno and the dual winners Leiba Leiba and Major Conquest, rated 96 and 92 respectively.
