On a busy Saturday in European racing, Darley stallions Shamardal and Dubawi were once again to the fore with two new Group winners courtesy of G2 Derby Italiano winner Crackerjack King and G3-winning filly Perfect Tribute, who landed the Chartwell Fillies’ Stakes at Lingfield.
Bred in Ireland by Italian-based Azienda Agricola Allevamneto Deni, Crackerjack King is out of Claba Di San Jore (Barathea), and is a half-brother to 2007 Derby Italiano winner Awelmarduk and last year’s third in the race, Jakkalberry. A son of Darley Japan sire Storming Home, Jakkalbery also won an earlier race on Saturday’s card at Capannelle, the G3 Premio Carlo d’Alessio
In the UK, the seven-furlong G3 Chartwell Fillies’ Stakes went the way of the Clive Cox-trained Dubawi three-year-old Perfect Tribute, who won her second stakes race of the year having also triumphed in the Listed Pavilion Stales at Ascot on 27 April.
Bred by Mildmay Bloodstock, she is the first foal of the Invincible Spirit mare Perfect Spirit.
Dubawi has made a great start to 2011 with eight individual stakes winners, including 2,000 Guineas runner-up Dubawi Gold, who won a brace of Listed events prior to his run in the Classic.
