Cape Cross' juvenile son Kalimdor notched his biggest success of his fledgling career on Sunday July 31 when victorious in the Listed Il.Inonu over 1200m at Istanbul in Turkey. A local G3 contest run on turf, he was recording his second victory in four starts when swooping late to win going away by just over a length.
Kalimdor's dam Dawn Surprise, a three-time winning mare by Theatrical, was covered by Cape Cross before being sold in foal at Goffs for €34,000. The resulting offspring was foaled in Turkey by H Yavas and hails from the family of top-grade Argentinean performers Lignify and Litigado.
Now sire of 67 Stakes winners, Cape Cross is famous for siring outstanding Champions the world over. In Europe he has Sea The Stars and Ouija Board, while in New Zealand he sired the great racemare, Seachange, between them they were the winners of 20 G1 races. Earlier this week he sired the G3 Gordon Stakes winner Namibian, who is now heads to the final classic of the season, the St Leger.
