Opinion Poll, by Darley stallion Halling, won for the second time the Group 2 Lonsdale Cup at York on Saturday, August 20. It was the eighth win for the genuine stayer that is trained by Mahmood Al Zarooni and was ridden by Frankie Dettori. Opinion Poll recorded also his second consecutive Group 2 win following his last victory in the Goodwood Cup.
Opinion Poll is out of the Group 2 placed mare Ahead, a daughter of the late Shirley Heights that has also produced the Group 3 winner Horatia. The winner was bred by Darley and is owned by Godolphin.
The consistent stallion Halling has sired 23 Group winners so far including the Group 1 winners Cavalryman and Cutlass Bay. Halling’s 2008 crop, three-year-olds of 2011, is represented by four black-type horses including the Group 3 winner Havant and Listed winner Longhunter.
