Sixth G1 victory for Rebel’s Romance

Son of Dubawi wins his second Preis von Europa

Dubawi’s brilliant globetrotting son Rebel’s Romance extended his G1-winning tally to six on Sunday, 22 September when taking the Preis von Europa in Cologne. Showing his customary battling qualities he repelled the challenge of Straight to record a neck victory.

The winner of 14 of his 21 starts, Rebel’s Romance completed a G1 hat trick in 2022, including this very race, culminating with a victory in the Breeders’ Cup Turf at Keeneland. He has now matched that trio of top-flight victories this season after the Dubai Sheema Classic at Meydan and the G1 Champions & Chater Cup in Hong Kong.

A Godolphin-homebred, Rebel’s Romance is the second G1 winner bred by the Street Cry mare Minidress this year after Measured Time’s victory in the G1 Jebel Hatta at Meydan. Minidress also has a full-brother yearling colt to Rebel’s Romance.

Dubawi is the sire of 26 Stakes winners in 2024, more than any European stallion. They include four that have won at the highest level. His three-year-olds Notable Speech and Ezeliya were the thrilling winner of the 2,000 Guineas and Oaks, Rebel’s Romance has now won three G1s, plus Master Of The Seas landed the G1 Maker’s Mark Mile at Keeneland in April.
