First-season sire Pinatubo added a fourth winner to his record on Wednesday, 17 July when his son Lakers justified odds-on favouritism to take the six-furlong maiden at Ffos Las.
Contesting the lead from the early stages under Billy Loughnane, Lakers was hard pressed in the closing stages by Zayer, but experience prevailed as he took back the lead close to home to win by half a length. The pair were over five lengths clear of the rest of the field.
Lakers was bred by Rabbah Bloodstock and is out of the Group-placed Sea The Stars mare Namhroodah, also dam of Night Of Thunder’s G1 Moyglare Stud Stakes third Ornellaia.
Pinatubo is also sire of the highly regarded Andesite, who holds several smart entries in the coming months, the unbeaten Wolf Of Badenoch, plus Godolphin’s multiple winner Cavallo Bay.
Also on Wednesday, leading young sire Blue Point recorded a new Black Type performer when his son Supido finished third in the Listed Prix des Jouvenceaux et Jouvencelles, run over seven furlongs at Vichy.
