A truly spectacular weekend of racing saw the European Darley stallions sire no fewer than four G1 winners between them.
Territories kicked off proceedings at Haydock, when his progressive son Regional stormed down the centre of the track to land the G1 Sprint Cup. He was providing his trainer Ed Bethell with a first winner at the highest level and becomes the 12th Black Type performer this year for his ever-consistent sire.
Regional was bred by Razza del Sole Societa Agricola SRL and is out of the Stakes-winning Dansili mare Favulusa.
Also on Saturday, Night Of Thunder added an exciting new Group winner to his already outstanding record when Flight Plan made all at Leopardstown to take the G2 Dullingham Park Stakes.
Back at Haydock, exciting Night Of Thunder two-year-old Al Musmak recorded a second win from three starts when landing the Listed Ascendant Stakes. He holds an entry in the G2 Royal Lodge Stakes at Newmarket later this month.
It was all eyes on the Curragh on Sunday for the second day of Irish Champions weekend and the Darley stallions were responsible for an outstanding three G1 winners.
Too Darn Hot has made a very successful start to his stud career and Fallen Angel became his first winner at G1 level when flying home in the Moyglare Stud Stakes. She now has three wins and one second on her record and won the G3 Sweet Solera Stakes last time out. Karl Burke’s charge could bid to add to her top-flight tally in the Fillies Mile next month.
Bred by Branton Court Stud, Fallen Angel is out of the smart performer Agnes Stewart, who won the G2 May Hill Stakes and was second in the Fillies Mile.
Too Darn Hot’s own sire, Dubawi is firmly established as one of the best stallions in the world and he could well have another Champion on his hands following the very impressive win for Henry Longfellow in the G1 National Stakes. He is now unbeaten in three starts and is now around 6-1 for next year’s 2,000 Guineas.
Henry Longfellow is impeccably bred, being out of the multiple Champion and seven-time G1 winner Minding.
In the next race, Eldar Eldarov (also by Dubawi) completed the G1 St Leger double, taking the Irish version by three and a half lengths having won the British equivalent almost exactly a year ago.
In all, Dubawi has now sired 55 individual G1 winners, while his stallion sons are definitely continuing the Dubawi dynasty as they sire winners of the highest class themselves.
