There were several strong contenders for the G3 Meld Stakes at Leopardstown on Thursday, 14 July but in the end the race went to Teofilo's Boundless Ocean for his first career Stakes victory.
Following an uneventful break, Boundless Ocean settled into the second spot very comfortably and the running order relatively unchanged until the field made the turf for home. Within a few strides from that point, Boundless Ocean pulled himself clear of the rest and was in front by a comfortable margin as he crossed the wire.
Boundless Ocean was bred by his trainer, Jim Bolger, and races in the name of Bolger's wife, Jackie. His dam Novel Approach is by New Approach who Bolger trained to win the 2008 Derby. This is also the family of multiple European Champion and Breeders' Cup Classic winner Arcangues.
Boundless Ocean becomes the 59th Group winner for Teofilo who has now sired a total of 108 Stakes winners worldwide, with 22 of those winning at the highest level. His 2022 tally of Stakes winners stands at eight, a number that reflects other Group winners Character, Honeycreeper and Without a Fight. Teofilo will be available to cover southern hemisphere time this year.
