Two weeks after Coroebus’ emphatic victory on the Rowley Mile, Modern Games powered home in the G1 Poule d’Essai des Poulains at Longchamp on Sunday, 15 May to provide a homebred Guineas double for his sire Dubawi.
The three-year-old colt, last seen winning the G1 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf at Del Mar, settled prominently behind early leader Texas, making headway off a strong pace with two furlongs to travel. Powering to the fore, Modern Games quickly asserted his dominance, going away from the battling Texas to win by one and a quarter lengths.
Trainer Charlie Appleby has now indicated a possible tilt at the stallion-making G1 Prix du Jockey Club for his next start.

Godolphin homebred Modern Games rounded off a fantastic week for his dam Modern Ideals, with her four-year-old son Modern News securing a Stakes win at Windsor last Monday and juvenile daughter Mawj winning convincingly on debut at Newmarket just yesterday.
The daughter of New Approach is a half-sister to French Champion two-year-old Ultra and G3 scorer Synopsis, and out of a daughter of Italian Champion Proskana. She is a half-sister to the dam of Champions Bosra Sham and Hector Protector, and from the extended family of record-breaking Hong Kong Horse of the Year Golden Sixty.
Modern Games is one of 49 individual G1 winners for his sensational sire Dubawi and his third top-flight star this season following Lord North’s narrow victory in the G1 Dubai Turf and Coroebus’ thrilling G1 2000 Guineas. Dubawi edges closer to a landmark 150 Group winners and looks to have a plethora of talent entering the summer months including Oaks contender Concert Hall and Royal Ascot hopeful Alfred Munnings.
