Cherry Tortoni made amends for a series of unlucky recent runs when the son of Night Of Thunder stormed home to win the Listed $200,000 Golden Mile at Bendigo on Saturday, 2 April.
Cherry Tortoni, already a three-time Stakes winner up to 2,040m, raced wide and in midfield for jockey Michael Dee before overpowering Hi Stranger and Milford in the home straight.
His record now stands at six wins and five placings from 19 starts for prize money of $924,925 for trainer Patrick Payne.
A dual G1 winner during an 11-start career that yielded four wins and four placings, Night Of Thunder is the sire of G1 winners Kukeracha and Thundering Nights and also the sire of recent Meydan Challenge (Listed) winner Storm Damage.
The stallion has a colt out of Empress Ali as Lot 151 in the catalogue at the 2022 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale at Riverside Stables, Warwick Farm from 5-6 April.
He stands at Kildangan Stud at a fee of €75,000, Oct 1, SLF.
