Yibir added yet more Breeders’ Cup glory for his connections as he came flying home late to win the G1 Breeders’ Cup Turf over Broome at Del Mar 6 November.
The three-year-old Dubawi gelding continued what has been an outstanding Breeders’ Cup meet for not only his sire, but also owner-breeder Godolphin, trainer Charlie Appleby and jockey William Buick.
It was Tribhuvan that went out to the lead to set the pace in the 12-furlong Turf. He continued to rattle along on the front end, with longshot Acclimate keeping him in company in second.
Coming through the final turn, the Aidan O’Brien-trained Broome moved into the lead. He looked well-positioned to find the wire in the short Del Mar stretch, but Yibir came charging down the center of the course and was able to reel in Broome nearing the wire to post the half-length victory.
Yibir is out of the multiple Stakes winner Rumh (Monsun), making him a full brother to Dubawi’s three-time G1 winner Wild Illusion, and a half-brother to Stakes-winning filly Really Special (Shamardal).
Dubawi’s hot autumn has continued with Yibir joining the likes of Space Blues, Modern Games and Creative Force as recent G1 Stakes winners just in the past few weeks.
