The G1 Prix de la Foret had been a long-term target for Dubawi’s five-year-old son Space Blues and he played his part to perfection at Longchamp on Sunday, 3 October when flying home to win by two lengths.
Charlie Appleby’s charge was settled in third last under William Buick early on in the seven-furlong contest, but once asked for his effort he put the race to bed in a matter of moments as he swept past his rivals and won very easily.
This was the second victory at the highest level for Space Blues, who won last year’s G1 Prix Maurice de Gheest. It was also his seventh Black Type win and fifth at Group level, having also landed the G3 Prix de la Port Maillot, the G2 Lennox Stakes and most recently, the G2 City Of York Stakes.
A homebred for Godolphin, Space Blues is out of the G2-winning Noverre mare Miss Lucifer, who is dam of three further winners including multiple Group winner and Stakes producer Shuruq. They are from the family of former Kildangan Stud flagbearer In The Wings.
Space Blues was the second Stakes winner of the day for his world-leading sire, whose daughter Maria Amalia was victorious at Listed level in Germany earlier in the afternoon.
Dubawi has sired an unrivalled 32 Black Type winners in 2021, including fellow G1 winners Albahr and Lord North.
The Darley stallions enjoyed further success at Longchamp when Territories sired his first G1 winner, as Rougir prevailed in a thrilling renewal of the Prix de l’Opera.
