Dubawi’s four-year-old son Space Blues returned to winning ways in fine style at York on Saturday, 21 August when running out the impressive winner of the G2 City Of York Stakes, ahead of Highfield Princess (Night Of Thunder) and Glorious Journey (Dubawi).
Settled towards the rear under William Buick, Space Blues was always travelling well and once asked to quicken, soon took up the running and kept to his task superbly to win by a length and a quarter.
Progressive Royal Ascot winner Highfield Princess put up another solid performance to take second, while consistent campaigner Glorious Journey added further Black Type to his record, finishing a close third.
Space Blues now has six Stakes victories to his name, including the G1 Prix Maurice de Gheest, which he won last year together with the G2 Lennox Stakes at Goodwood.
Space Blues is one of four winners out of the G2-winning Noverre mare Miss Lucifer, also dam of Champion filly and Group producer Shuruq. He is from the family of G1 1,000 Guineas winner Virginia Waters, plus fellow G1 winner Chachamaidee.
His victory comes just a day after two-year-old Dubawi filly Albahr landed the Listed Stonehenge Stakes at Salisbury, extending her unbeaten run to three races.
Space Blues, one of 25 Black Type winners for Dubawi this year, is the second G2 winner at York this week for his sire following Yibir’s victory in the G2 Great Voltigeur Stakes.
