The second day of Ascot’s Royal meeting proved successful for the Darley stallions both established and new, as Dalham Hall Stud flagbearer Dubawi sired the winner of the G2 Queen’s Vase, shortly after Kildangan first-season sire Profitable was responsible for the winner of the G2 Queen Mary.
Quick Suzy (Profitable) certainly lived up to her name, storming home to take this week’s premier contest for two-year-old fillies, the G2 Queen Mary. Always prominent under Gary Carroll, Gavin Cromwell’s charge was pushed along two furlongs out and picked up impressively close to home to collar the US raider Twilight Gleaming and win by a length and a quarter.
Quick Suzy broke her maiden by five and a half lengths in early May, before finishing second in the G3 Irish Fillies Sprint two weeks later.
Bred by Oghill House Stud and Jasleen, Quick Suzy is a daughter of the winning Marju-mare Snooze, a half-sister to Stakes winner Aria di Festa, who is herself the dam of this season’s Italian Classic winner Aria Importante.
Profitable went on to add a new winner to his record the same day, when Zebelle won at the first time of asking at Ripon.
The following race, the G3 Queen’s Vase, was won in equally impressive fashion by three-year-old son of Dubawi, Kemari.
Running in the Godolphin blue, Kemari was settled just behind the early leaders under William Buick, before taking the lead two furlongs out. From then on, he was never seriously challenged and crossed the line a length and a half ahead of his nearest rival.
Kemari was bred by Fittocks Stud and is the first foal out of the Group-winning Pivotal mare Koora. She is a half-sister to multiple G1 winner Milan.
The final race on the card, the one-mile Kensington Palace Stakes, was won by Night Of Thunder filly Lola Showgirl, who remains unbeaten this year.
The four-year-old filly was never far from the pace and taking the lead two furlongs out, kept to her task superbly to outbattle stablemate Ffion and win by three quarters of a length.
Lola Showgirl was bred by Noel Finegan and is out of the Exceed And Excel mare Exempt, herself a half-sister to G1-placed G2 winner Three Degrees, plus Iffraaj's Stakes-winning daughter Mehronissa.
