An overpowering run through the field over the final 250m has won Cascadian victory in Saturday’s G1 Doncaster Mile at Randwick and given his sire New Approach his ninth individual winner at the top level.
A distinguished performer in France before joining the Australian team of James Cummings, Cascadian burst from the pack at the 200m and then appeared to peak on his run before jockey Jamie Kah encourage a renewed effort that carried him to a half-head win. Cascadian’s win was reward for his consistency and for his narrow defeat in the G1 Cantala Stakes at Flemington last spring.
It also came on a day when Paulele (Dawn Approach), a grandson of New Approach won the G3 Kindergarten Stakes.
Cascadian, formerly a member of the Andre Fabre team in France, is the first foal of the Street Cry mare Falls Of Lora who is a sister or half-sister to seven winners including Master Of The Seas (Dubawi), winner of the G2 Superlative Stakes at Newmarket.
Later in the afternoon Iffraaj sired a new Group winner when his three-year-old son Western Empire struck in the G2 Western Australian Derby. Western Empire has been a revelation of late, and he was winning his fourth consecutive Stakes race in the space six weeks.
Out of the G2-winning Jeune mare Western Jewel, Western Empire is a half-brother to the Listed-winning Western Temple and from the family of G3 winner Timeless Action.
Iffraaj has made a great start to the 2021 siring five Group winners including Forest Of Dean, Fast Raaj and Land Of Legends. He is currently standing the 2021 breeding season at Dalham Hall Stud at a fee of £20,000 Oct 1, SLF.
