Bivouac emphatically announced himself as the best Australian son of Darley’s leading Australian stallion Exceed And Excel with a resounding win in the G1 Darley Sprint Classic at Flemington on Saturday, 7 November.
The star four-year-old also laid claim to the title of Australia’s champion sprinter with his third G1 victory.
“Bivouac is a superstar racehorse very much in the mould of his father,” said Darley Australia’s Head of Sales, Alastair Pulford.
“He’s going to be a hotly-sought after prospect when he retires to stud.”
Godolphin Australia Racing and Bloodstock manager Jason Walsh echoed the team’s regard for Bivouac.
“Bivouac comes from what I consider to be our best female family,” Walsh said.
“His mother Dazzler had Stakes potential ... she was a half-sister to four-time champion mare Guelph and from the family of Sepoy, who was such an important horse for Sheikh Mohammed.
“Bivouac’s grandmother Camarilla was a Group One winner, his great grandmother Camarena was a G1 winner, so this is a hugely deep pedigree laden with G1 success.”
“On that basis it’s no surprise that Bivouac has the quality that he does.”
Bivouac had control of the Darley Classic from the jump with the leader Nature Strip in his sights throughout.
Boss asked for an effort at the 200m and Bivouac answered with a turn of foot that carried him to the front in a couple of strides and carried him the line untouched to win by 3-1/4 lengths from Nature Strip with Libertini in third place.
Bivouac also became Exceed And Excel’s second G1 winner for the Melbourne Cup meeting joining September Run, winner of the G1 Coolmore Stud Stakes.
Exceed And Excel, who is recognised as the world’s greatest sire of juveniles and the sire of 178 Stakes winners, stood the latest southern-hemisphere breeding season at Kelvinside NSW.
