Twenty-one years on from his grandsire Dubai Millennium’s devastating victory, The Revenant added his own name to the illustrious roll of honour taking the G1 Queen Elizabeth II Stakes at Ascot on Saturday, 17 October.
Winner of G2 Prix Daniel Wildenstein two weeks earlier and runner-up in last year’s edition, The Revenant raced prominently under jockey Pierre-Charles Boudot, staking a challenge with two furlongs to travel. Under pressure from Roseman in the final furlong, The Revenant bravely fought back, staying on to deny his challenger by a head.
Owned and bred by Al Asayl Bloodstock, The Revenant is the second foal out of G3 winning Excellent Art mare Hazel Lavery. Out of the Darshaan mare Reprise, Hazel Lavery is a half-sister to the Champion Leo Gali and from the family of G3 Derrinstown Stud Derby Trial winner Artema.
The Revenant is the 44th individual G1 winner for his outstanding sire Dubawi and the fourth to strike at the highest level this season. October has already proved a fruitful month for Dubawi with One Ruler and Almanaar both cementing Group victories last week with the filly Onassis adding a second Stakes victory to her record a day later.
