The two-year-old fillies were to the fore at Doncaster in the G2 May Hill Stakes on Thursday, 10 September and the one-mile contest proved extremely successful for Darley stallions Dubawi and Teofilo, who sired the first and second home respectively.
Indigo Girl (Dubawi) was held up in last under Frankie Dettori, before making progress at the halfway stage. Taking a narrow lead a furlong from home, the John Gosden-trained filly showed some signs of greenness in the closing stages, but kept on well to win by three quarters of a length from Dubai Fountain (Teofilo).
Indigo Girl won her only previous start in convincing fashion and a step up to G1 level is now on the cards, with the Fillies’ Mile or Prix Marcel Boussac slated as potential targets for this talented filly.
Owned and bred by George Strawbridge, Indigo Girl is out of the G1 winner Montare (Montjeu), making her a full sister to Dubawi’s G1 Champion Fillies and Mares Stakes heroine Journey.
Dubawi is also the broodmare sire of Dubai Fountain, who also looks like another smart prospect for her sire Teofilo.
Also on Thursday, there was further success in the sales ring for Dubawi, as his yearling filly out of Starlet’s Sister was knocked down to Oliver St Lawrence for €2.5 million, topping the session by a considerable margin.
The first yearlings by dual Champion miler Ribchester are currently going through the ring and have received a warm welcome at Arqana, selling for up to €240,000.
