Ghaiyyath has enjoyed a truly superb season so far and on Wednesday, 19 August the five-year-old son of Dubawi confirmed his position as one of the top racehorses in the world with a dominant win in the G1 Juddmonte International at York.
Soon in front under William Buick, Rose Of Kildare looked set to join Ghaiyyath up front early on in the 10-furlong contest but soon dropped back to let him take the lead uncontested. From then on, not one of his rivals got remotely close as he cruised into the straight and once asked to quicken, he soon moved clear and eventually won by three lengths.
His paternal half-brother and G1 Prince Of Wales’s winner Lord North put up another creditable performance to take third.
Ghaiyyath broke his maiden by five lengths at Newmarket at two, before taking the G3 Autumn Stakes. He won the G3 Prix du Prince d’Orange on his sole start at three, before reappearing at four to take the G2 Prix d’Harcourt. He recorded his first G1 victory later that year, with a devastating 14-length romp in the Grosser Preis von Baden.
In 2020, Ghaiyyath has been simply exceptional, winning all four of his starts. He kicked off his campaign with an eight-and-a-half-length victory in the Dubai Millennium Stakes at Meydan, before breaking the course record in the G1 Coronation Cup (held at Newmarket this year). Exactly a month later, he successfully took on Enable in the G1 Eclipse.
Bred by Springbank Way Stud and a €1.1million foal, Ghaiyyath is a half-brother to G1 winner Zhukova out of Galileo’s G1 Irish One Thousand Guineas heroine Nightime. She is the best performer from the Listed-winning Indian Ridge mare Caumshinaun. Ghaiyyath is bred on the same hugely successful Dubawi/ Galileo cross that has also produced Classic winner and sire of the moment Night Of Thunder.
He is one of 43 G1 winners for his world-leading sire Dubawi, and the second winner for his sire of this prestigious race following Postponed in 2016.
Dubawi is also sire this year of the speedy Space Blues, who landed the Prix Maurice de Gheest earlier this month, and the highly rated Group-winning two-year-old Master Of The Seas.
