Thunderous, one of twelve Stakes winners from Night Of Thunder’s first European-bred crop, landed his first race of 2020 in the G2 Dante Stakes at York. An unbeaten juvenile when winning Denford Stakes at Newbury, he came into the race on the back of a second in the Listed Fairway Stakes last month, his only career defeat.
Always prominent, he battled gamely in the straight to get the better of Highest Ground by a neck with two lengths back to the third.
Thunderous is the third foal of the Stakes-winning Dalakhani mare Souviens Toi and from the family of G1 winner Earl Of Tinsdal.
Night Of Thunder has now sired eight three-year-old Stakes winners this year, more than any other European stallion. They are led by G2 Classic winner Auyantepui, German Group-winning filly No Limit Credit and the very exciting Molatham, winner of the G3 Jersey Stakes at Royal Ascot and a likely runner in the G1 Prix Jean Prat on Sunday.
