A new Stakes success emerged for Dawn Approach when Dawn Patrol became his sire’s 9th Black Type winner at Rotorua, New Zealand, on Saturday, 19 October.
A year after achieving the previous best result of his career when second in the G1 NZ 2,000 Guineas, Dawn Patrol proved too classy for his opposition, winning the G3 Sweynesse Stakes by three-quarters of a length.
Dawn Patrol enjoyed a perfect run throughout the 1,200m under Jonathon Riddel, taking the lead at the 100m and fighting off all challengers to win convincingly.
The win was Dawn Patrol’s fourth and the second of his current preparation and makes him the second son of Dawn Approach to win a Stakes race in Australia and New Zealand this season, following the victory of Dawn Passage in the Listed Rosebud at Rosehill in August.
The four-year-old is out of the Star Way mare Dazzling whose dam Limitless won the G1 Brisbane Cup.
Dawn Approach is also sire this year of Derby second Madhmoon, last weekends impressive Listed winner Dadoozdart, Australian Stakes-winning duo Dawn Passage and Diamond Thunder, plus G1 Prix Vermeille second Musis Amica.
