The G3 Autumn Stakes has produced some very impressive racehorses in the past, having been won by subsequent G1 winners Best Solution, Ghaiyyath and Persian King in the last three years alone. The 2019 renewal proved no less exciting, as Military March (New Approach) prevailed in a thrilling finish over Al Suhail (Dubawi).
Both running in the Godolphin blue, Military March was always close to the pace, while Al Suhail was settled in midfield. Once asked to quicken at the two-furlong marker, the pair soon moved clear of their rivals and battled superbly close to home with Military March eventually winning by half a length. There was a full seven lengths back to Ropey Guest in third.
The Saeed bin Suroor-trained Military March is out of G1 Darley Yorkshire Oaks winner Punctilious (Danehill), dam of five winners from five foals to race.
New Approach, who will be joined at Dalham Hall Stud by his Derby-winning son Masar in 2020, is now sire of 18 individual Black Type performers this year, seven of whom have been victorious at Group level.
