Dubawi’s muitiple G1 winner Benbatl, last seen chasing home the mighty Winx in the Cox Plate, returned to the racecourse in impressive style on Friday, 27 September with a comprehensive win in the G2 Joel Stakes on Newmarket’s Rowley Mile.
Soon in front under Oisin Murphy, the five-year-old entire was prominent throughout the one-mile contest and once asked to quicken, shrugged off his rivals with ease to win going away by five lengths.
Benbatl won the Hampton Court Stakes at Royal Ascot in 2017, before returning at Meydan the following January with victory in the G3 Singspiel Stakes. A win in the G2 Al Rashidiya swiftly followed, before he recorded his first win at the highest level in the G1 Dubai Turf.
He also won last year’s G1 Grosser Dallmayr Preis and the G1 Ladbrokes Stakes at Caulfield last October.
Benbatl is out of the multiple G1 winner Nahrain (Selkirk), herself a daughter of Oaks runner up Bahr.
Earlier today, another son of Dubawi in Captain Cook added second Group win to his record when landing the G3 JRA Cup at Moonee Valley, Australia.
Dubawi is now sire of 32 Stakes winners and 23 Group winners in 2019, headed by multiple G1 winners Too Darn Hot and Old Persian.
Dubawi has two yearlings catalogued at next week’s Goffs Orby Sale, plus a further 29 due to go through the ring at the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale Book 1.
