Matterhorn, a four-year-old son of Raven’s Pass, added a first stakes victory when taking the Listed Midsummer Stakes at Windsor on Saturday, 29 June. Placed at Group level twice this season, the Mark Johnston trained colt put on a game display, finding enough in the final furlong to fend off the closing New Graduate (New Approach) and winning by a length.
Bred by Barronstown Stud, Matterhorn is a half-brother to G3 Curragh Cup victor Tactic, G2 King Edward VII runner-up Bangkok and the dam of multiple G1 winning miler Ribchester. They are out of Tanaghum, a Listed placed daughter of Darshaan, herself a daughter of G1 Irish One Thousand Guineas winner Mehthaaf.
Raven’s Pass is the sire of 9 Black Type performers this season including G2 winner Tower Of London, G3 victor Raven’s Corner and the Listed winning filly Gorgeous Noora. He currently sires an excellent 9% stakes winners to runners.
