Dubawi’s son Muntazah became the second Darley-sired Group winner of the evening at Meydan on Thursday, 14 February and led home a 1-2-3 for the Darley stallions when landing the G3 Firebreak Stakes.
Doug Watson’s charge was settled in second during the early stages of the one-mile contest, behind Heavy Metal (Exceed And Excel). Asked for his effort with two furlongs left to run, Muntazah responded brilliantly under Jim Crowley to move clear of his rivals and win by four and a half lengths. Secret Ambition (also by Exceed And Excel) kept on well to take second, with Heavy Metal adding further Black Type to his record in third.
A Shadwell homebred, Muntazah is one of three Stakes winners out of the G1 Oaks third and Feilden Stakes winner Rumoush. The dam is herself a half-sister to English Guineas winner Ghanaati and is from the family of fellow G1 winners Nashwan and Nayef.
Less than two months into 2019, Dubawi has already sired six individual Black Type winners and a further three horses who have been placed at Stakes level, including Dubai World Cup contender North America, winner of the first two rounds of the Al Maktoum Challenge (both G2 contests).
