Dubara rallied in the stretch to capture the Marie G. Krantz Memorial Stakes by three-quarters of a length at Fair Grounds 19 January.
It was the first Stakes victory for the five-year-old mare by Dubawi, who was just beaten by a half-length in the Blushing K.D. Stakes in her last start.
Reunited with jockey Jamie Spencer, Dubara was settled at the back of the field through the early stages of the race. Dubara began to close steadily on the far turn and was moved into the clear out in the center of the course by Spencer in the stretch. Benefitting from a strong ride by the former champion jockey, Dubara rallied determinedly in the final furlong to get up at the wire to earn her first Stakes victory.
Bred in Great Britain by Fittocks Stud, Dubara is out of Kibara, a winning daughter of Sadler’s Wells. Kibara herself is a full-sister to Champion Milan, winner of the G1 Rothmans Royals St. Leger. Dubara’s second dam is Kithanga, a Multiple Group Stakes winner and Champion older mare at age four.
Dubawi, officially the best stallion in the world, became the first ever UK-based sire to notch 100 individual Group winners last year. He has no fewer than 38 G1 winners to his name, including young Darley stallions Night Of Thunder and Postponed (who stand alongside their sire at Dalham Hall Stud), plus Hunter’s Light in France, whose first runners are due to hit the racecourse this year.
