Bateel, Dubawi’s brilliant daughter who landed the G1 Prix Vermeille in 2017, made a perfect start to her season when giving weight to her rivals in the G2 Prix Corrida at Saint-Cloud. Held up in her customary fashion, she made stealthy headway on the bridle two furlongs from home before going clear with the minimum of fuss to win readily.
Lightly raced for a six-year-old, she has now won eight of her 14 starts including the Prix Vermeille, G2 Prix de Pomone and the G3 Pinnacle Stakes.
Bred by Al Asayl Bloodstock, Bateel is the second Stakes winner to be produced by the Chief’s Crown mare Attractive Crown after the Prix Charles Laffitte heroine Basemah. A winner in both Ireland and the US, Attractive Crown was also placed in the G2 Pretty Polly Stakes.
Bateel is one of 97 Group winners sired by Dubawi, 35 of which have won at the highest level. He has now sired 29 Stakes performers in 2018 including Dubai top-flight winners Benbatl and North America, the recently retired Wuheida, who landed the G2 Dahlia Stakes at Newmarket, last week’s York G2 heroine Coronet and Group scorers Jordan Sport, Kitesurf and Soliloquy.
