Teofilo added a new Group winner to his record, and his second Black Type winner in as many days on Sunday, 6 May, when his four-year-old son Irishcorrespondent streaked to victory in the G3 Queen Mother Memorial Cup at Sha Tin.
Initially settled off the steady pace, jockey Zac Purton made a decisive move with five furlongs left to run and moved to the front. The race never looked in doubt from that point on, as Irishcorrespondent moved further and further clear, eventually crossing the line a full six lengths ahead of his nearest rival.
Irishcorrespondent (who now races under the name Exultant), was a talented performer when racing in Europe, finishing third in last year’s G1 Irish 2,000 Guineas. He also finished third in this year’s Hong Kong Derby.
Irishcorrespondent was bred by Ballygallon Stud and is out of the winning Mark Of Esteem mare Contrary, herself a half-sister to Group-winning sprinters Caspian Prince and Spirit Quartz.
A day earlier, Teofilo added another new Stakes winner when Key Victory landed the Listed Newmarket Stakes on the Rowley Mile. A trip to Royal Ascot is now on the cards for this promising unbeaten colt.
Teofilo stands at Kildangan Stud at a fee of €40,000, Oct 1, SLF.
