Barney Roy retired to stud as one of the top milers of his generation, having won the fastest St James’s Palace ever, breaking the course record by almost two seconds.
Now covering his first book of mares at Dalham Hall Stud, breeders who have already booked in their mares to visit the outstanding grandson of Exceed And Excel have been waxing lyrical about one of the newest stallions on the Darley roster.
Dermont Cantillon of Tinnakill Bloodstock said, “Barney Roy is the top-rated miler of his generation, representing great value for breeders. I am sending him a couple of his mares.
Robin Sharp (Fox Farm) commented, “Incredible value for such a fantastic racehorse. I saw him in the paddock at Royal Ascot and he really stood out for me. We are sending two mares.”
Stetchworth Park Stud’s Tim Gredley said, “We think that Barney Roy is a lovely physical horse and for a proven G1 winner who broke a track record at Ascot, he is great value as a stallion.”
Bloodstock agent Jeremy Brummitt has two clients sending mares so far and said, “He demonstrated the rare ability to quicken twice in the Greeham. “He won a G1 at Royal Ascot, at which stage he was rated a stone higher than many popular stallions who are expected to deliver precocious runners.
“I believe he was an unlucky runner-up in two of the biggest races of the season to horses standing for three times his fee.
“I call that value.”
Steven Hillen, Framont Bloodstock, commented, “Barney Roy and Churchill were the standout physicals in the Guineas. Barney Roy was arguable unlucky not handling the dip.
“He looks good value at £10,000. Had he won the Guineas, he would be much more expensive.”
Nick Pocock said of Barney Roy, “He was an exceptional racehorse, he’s correct and he has a great walk. All around he suits our mares.”
Barney Roy was also described by his trainer Richard Hannon as, “by far the best I have trained.”
