The first yearlings by Brazen Beau set the new sales complex at Riverside Stables alight over the weekend, with a colt by the Champion Sprinter achieving a new record price for the Inglis Classic Yearling Sale when selling for A$480,000 (£271,000).
Out of Written Dash, a smart sprinter herself who landed the G3 Typhoon Tracy Stakes at three, he was eventually purchased by Justin Bahen on behalf of Hong Kong-based Orbis Bloodstock, who had to see off a strong challenge from Snowden Racing to secure the smashing colt.
Speaking after the sale, Bahen said, “I thought he was the best colt on the ground.
“He is a lovely, well-balanced strong colt and he had a great brain on him. He continued to do as he was told from the time I saw him until the time he was in the ring tonight.”
Tyreel Stud’s Rob Sims, who offered the colt for sale, was also thrilled, saying, “We’re delighted, over the moon. He is an exceptional type and a ready-made two-year-old.”
Brazen Beau concluded Book One with a superb average of A$193,750 (£109,000), ensuring his position as leading first-season sire.
Brazen Beau’s first European book included siblings to Airwave, Owington, Raven’s Pass, Virtual and Trade Storm. This year, he already has Classic winner Speciosa due to visit him, plus siblings to 13 Group winners booked in so far.
His first foals went through the ring late last year and were very well received, averaging over three times his covering fee and selling for up to £71,000.
