As the European yearling sales reached their crescendo at Goffs and Tattersalls in recent weeks, the first yearlings by Slade Power have certainly proved a popular choice, with the Champion sprinter recording an impressive select sale average of €93,000.
During Tattersalls October Yearling Sale Book 1, which took place in Newmarket last week, the hammer fell at 260,000gns (€310,000) not once, but twice. A filly out of Sleeping Beauty, herself a daughter of Irish 1,000 Guineas winner Nightime, offered by The Castlebridge Consignment will join Godolphin, while a few lots earlier Charlie Gordon-Watson was the successful bidder for a colt out of the well-bred Silk Trail.
During Book 2, there was further success as MV Magnier and Peter & Ross Doyle had to go to 200,000 gns to secure a cracking colt out of Summer In February, herself a half-sister to Dutch Connection. The Hong Kong Jockey Club were also in action, paying 180,000gns for a colt out of Keepers Hill, consigned by Mountain View Stud.
No fewer than 14 of his yearlings have achieved six-figure sums, including a colt out of Listed winner and G2 performer Choose Me, who was bought by SackvilleDonald for an even €100,000 at Goffs. The mare has a perfect record with her three runners to date, headed by G3 winner and G1 Matron Stakes third Persuasive.
The same team had to go even further to secure his colt out of Pivotal’s Princess at the same sale, with Corduff Stud’s smart yearling eventually selling for €110,000. Sackville Donald have purchased five youngsters by Slade Power so far this year.
Other purchasers of Slade Power’s yearlings include Gill Richardson, who bought three, together with Shadwell, Bobby O’Ryan and Con Marnane.
