Raven’s Pass’s son Viscount Barfield made his first step up into Stakes company a winning one when landing the Listed City Plate at Chester on Saturday 15 July. Held up at the rear, he made his move in the straight and defeated the admirable Jungle Cat (Iffraaj) by a head after a sustained duel in the final furlong.
Bred by Rockwell Bloodstock, Viscount Barfield is the first Stakes winner bred out of the Montjeu-mare Madonna Dell’Orto, a half-sister to G1 Poule d’Essai des Poulains hero Landseer.
Raven’s Pass is also sire this year of three-time Group winner Big Duke in Australia (last seen finishing a creditable third in the G1 Sydney Cup), French G3 winner Via Ravenna, Stakes-winning G2 filly Elas Ruby and multiple Stakes winner Greg Pass.
