Wolf Country, a very promising three-year-old son of Dubawi, took the step up to Stakes level in his stride on Monday 1 May when landing the Listed Prix de l’Avre at Saint-Cloud. Heading to the front straight from the stalls, the lightly raced colt never saw another rival to win unextended by three-quarters-of-a-length.
Bred by Stiftung Gestüt Fahrhof and sold as a yearling for 725,000gns, Wolf Country is a son of the Group-winning dam Goathemala (Black Sam Bellamy), who has now produced three Stakes performers from her first three dams.
Dubawi, who earlier in the afternoon had the close second in the G1 Prix Ganay in Zarak, has now sired 129 Stakes winners with 27 of those winning at the highest level. His Queen Elizabeth II Stakes-winning son Poet’s Voice also enjoyed a very good afternoon, siring his second Classic-winner from his first two crops through Mi Raccomando.
