When Brazen Beau joined Darley’s European roster in 2016, the striking son of I Am Invincible soon caught the eye of breeders in the northern hemisphere. His popularity came as no great surprise, considering he was crowned Champion Sprinter at three in his native Australia – no mean feat in one of the toughest divisions in racing.
Brazen Beau proved the fastest of his own age group when sweeping to victory in the G1 Coolmore Stud Stakes, but his best was yet to come as he defeated his older rivals with a sensational win in the G1 Newmarket Handicap – the very same race that put Exceed And Excel on the map.
Beaten by the narrowest of margins in the G1 Diamond Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot, Brazen Beau retired to stud with a Timeform rating of 127.
Brazen Beau is the very best to date by I Am Invincible (Invincible Spirit), who has already made a huge impact at stud Down Under, winning the titles of both leading first-season and leading second-season sire. He is now establishing himself as one of the country’s top stallions and his yearlings averaged a staggering 18 times his fee at the recent Inglis Easter Sale.
Brazen Beau’s own offspring have been earning rave reviews in Australia and this week at Inglis, mares in foal to him made up to A$160,000.
During his first season at stud in Europe, Brazen Beau covered 108 mares – 82% of which were Stakes horses, their dams, daughter or siblings. The subsequent foals are now on the ground and early signs are extremely promising.
Pictured below is his colt out of Dot Fleming’s multiple winner Camelopardalis, born at Kirtlington Stud on 15 January. The mare is herself out of Virginia Stakes winner Bonne Etoile and a granddaughter of G1 winner Bonne Ile.
