The G3 Prix Imprudence is one of France’s premier trials for their 1,000 Guineas and on Monday 10 April Raven’s Pass unleashed a potential superstar in Via Ravenna. Making only her second career start after a victory at Chantilly at the beginning of March, she was held up in the rear in a slowly run contest. Making her move 200m from home, she swept round the outside to quicken decisively to beat the pacesetter, the gallant Rio de la Plata filly Thais.
Holding entries in all the female French Classics, she will bid to bolster the list of previous winners of today’s race, which reads like a who's who of some of the greats of French racing: Ma Biche, Miesque, Ravinella, Pas de Response, Six Perfections, Natagora, Elusive Wave, Moonlight Cloud and Ervedya.
Owned and bred by Haras de Saint Pair, Via Ravenna is a daughter of the French G3-winning mare Via Milano (Singspiel), and a half-sister to three Stakes performers including G3 winner Via Medici.
Raven’s Pass, who is standing at Kildangan Stud at a fee of €12,000, is enjoying an excellent start to 2017. In Australia, he has three-time Group winning colt Big Duke, while in the US he has G3 filly Darkwingsoverdubai. On Sunday in Ireland, his three-year-old daughter Tocco d’Amore made a stunning debut to win by six lengths at Naas.
Rio de la Plata is standing at a fee of €5,500 at Haras du Logis in France.
