Authorized's highly progressive son Prize Money caused something of an upset at Meydan on Super Saturday when defeating multiple G1 winner Postponed (Dubawi) in the G2 Dubai City Of Gold. Emotionless (Shamardal) stayed on well to be third in a close-fought finish to the twelve-furlong contest.
The victory marked a first Stakes success for Prize Money who entered the race off a win in a Meydan handicap on February 11. Campaigned in Britain last year, the Saeed bin Suroor-trained four-year-old was runner-up to Hawkbill in the G3 Tercentenary Stakes at Royal Ascot before rounding off his seaosn with victory in the November Handicap at Doncaster.
Bred and raced by Godolphin, Prize Money is a half-brother to the winners Dubai One and Role Play, both by Exceed And Excel. Their dam, the Elusive Quality mare Dresden Doll, is a half-sister to the Irish 1,000 Guineas heroine Crimplene.
Postponed flashed home late to be second by a neck on Saturday after a troubled run where he was boxed in at the critical stage, while Emotionless showed his battling qualities to claim third place, just three-quarters of a length further back.
Prize Money is one of 29 individual Stakes winners for Authorized, who stands at Haras du Logis, Normandy, for €10,000.
