There were two Black type contests at Toulouse on 11 November, and the Darley sires were responsible for the winners of both as Dubawi and Shamardal added a new Group winner and a new Stakes winner respectively.
Two-year-old Shamardal filly Heuristique took the opening race of the day, the Listed Grand Criterium de Languedoc. She won the one-mile contest by three lengths, breaking her maiden in superb style.
Heuristique was bred by Pontchartrain Stud and is out of the multiple winner T’As d’Beaux Yeux, who is from the family of G1 French 1,000 Guineas winner Torrestrella.
Later in the afternoon, Godolphin’s Powder Snow ran out the easy winner of the G3 Prix Fille de l’Air – the final Pattern contest of the European season. Settled just off the pace, the Henri-Alex Pantall-trained filly was asked to quicken inside the final furlong and soon moved clear, running on superbly to win by three lengths.
Powder Snow is out of the Sadler’s Wells mare Snow Ballerina, a half-sister to outstanding Derby, King George and Arc winner Lammtarra.
Dubawi, sire of no fewer than 26 G1 winners to date and the fastest ever to sire 50 Group winners, stands at Dalham Hall Stud at a fee of £250,000 October 1st SLF.
