Iffraaj mare Lady Zafira has recorded her first Stakes victory in the Listed Pegasus Handicap (1000m) at Riccarton on November 5.
Trained by John Bary, six-year-old Lady Zafira was ridden quietly by jockey Mark Du Plessis early behind a solid tempo before pouncing on her rivals to win strongly.
Previously placed in the Listed Rotorua Stakes (1400m) in May, Lady Zafira is the 43rd Stakes winner for her sire Iffraaj and takes her record to four wins and 12 placings from 22 starts.
Bred by Mrs M A Wallace, Lady Zafira is one of six winners, and the first at Stakes level, for her dam Mary Robinson, who is a sister to G3 winner Exinite and Listed winner Vitrinite.
This season Iffraaj has also sired G3 Darley Stakes winner Muffri’ha, the Prix Jacques le Marios winner Ribchester, Classic-placed filly Nathra, the talented sprinter Mehronissa and G1-placed three-year-old Latharnach, who recently won a Listed race at Redcar.
Iffraaj stands at Dalham Hall Stud for a recently announced fee of £27,500 October 1, SLF.
