Vazirabad, the best stayer trained in France, landed the G1 Prix Royal Oak for the second successive season on Sunday 23 October. Undertaking his normal tactics of being held up in the rear, the impressive son of Manduro made smooth progress entering the straight before taking up the lead a couple of furlongs from home. Soon at least two lengths clear, he held off the late challenge of Godolphin’s Endless Time and the top mare Siljan’s Saga to record his seventh Group triumph, from only 13 career starts.
Owned and bred by H.H. The Aga Khan, Vazirabad is out of the G3-winning Linamix mare Visorama, a half-sister to G1-winner Varenar.
Manduro has sired 14 Stakes performers on the season including yesterday’s G3 St Simon Stakes winner Duretto, G2 filly Techno Queen, and a trio of Stakes winning three-year-old fillies in Wanderina, Plein Air and Red Stars.
