Flaxman Holding’s Erupt exploded in the stretch, charging past rivals on his way to winning the G1 Pattison Canadian International by a length at Woodbine October 16.
Finishing second in the Canadian International was The Queen’s Dartmouth, providing sire Dubawi with a one-two finish in the race. The victory capped off a great weekend for Dubawi, which began with Journey’s victory in the G1 Fillies and Mares Stakes on British Champions Day at Ascot. The two wins bookended a victory by Sheikhzayedroad in the G2 Long Distance Cup and the one-two finish of Intimation and Rose De Pierre in the Listed Garnet Stakes.
Benefitting from a perfectly-timed ride by jockey Stephane Pasquier, Erupt was settled in fourth, just behind the leaders, through the early stages of the race. As the field swept through the far turn and entered the homestretch, Dartmouth had overtaken the longtime leader World Approval, and appeared to be on his way to victory. Erupt was moving swiftly on the outside however, and displayed an impressive turn of foot as he charged past Dartmouth in the final furlong to win convincingly.
It was the second G1 Stakes win for Erupt, who captured the G1 Juddmonte Grand Prix de Paris as a three-year-old.
Erupt was bred in Ireland and races as a homebred for the Niarchos family’s Flaxman Holdings. Erupt is out of Mare Nostrum (by Caerleon), winner of the G3 Prix Vaneaux, and is a half-brother to Stakes winner Marie De Medici. Erupt hails from the family of G1 Stakes winner Aube Indienne, and champions La Voyageuse, L’Enjoleur, and Medaille d’Or.
Erupt is the fifth G1 winner sired by Dubawi in 2016, joining Postponed, Journey, Left Hand, and Wuheida. Dubawi is also the sire of 30 individual Stakes winners this year, including the aforementioned Intimation, Move Up, and Powder Snow, just to name a few.
