It was a stellar weekend for Exceed And Excel in Australia as smart filly Madeenaty made it a clean sweep of the two-year-old Stakes races for the Champion sire in the Listed Maribrynong Trial Stakes over 1000m at Flemington on Sunday 2 October.
Jumping from an inside alley for jockey Mark Zahra, Madeenaty was quick to take up front running. The filly quickened at the 200 metre mark to race away and claim a stylish victory by three lengths from Double Jeopardy, a colt also by Exceed And Excel.
Madeenaty was bred by Segenhoe Thoroughbreds and was sold for $775,000 at the 2016 Gold Coast yearling sale. The filly is out of Reset mare Set For Fame, who is a three-time G2 winner and dam of two winners from as many runners.
Exceed And Excel continues his affinity with the leading juveniles in Australian racing, as Madeenaty’s maiden victory represents her sire’s third 2YO Stakes win for the weekend. The day prior at Randwick Darley homebred Jorda took out the Gimcrack Stakes while impressive colt Khan claimed the Breeders’ Plate, which now takes the Champion sire’s record of individual black type performers to a staggering 124.
