Just hours after maintaining his perfect record with a third victory from as many runners, Helmet scored another hit in the sales ring on Wednesday evening when a colt by the leading first-season sire was purchased for 200,000gns at the Tattersalls Craven Breeze Up Sale.
Lot 118 was the second two-year-old by Helmet to sell for 200,000gns or more, following the purchase of a colt at Tuesday’s opening session for 210,000gns. Trainer Roger Varian made the winning bid on behalf of Shadwell for the colt, consigned by Powerstown Stud, who is the first foal out of a winning half-sister to Diamond Diva, a G2 winner in the US, from the further family of the classy matriarch Hatton Gardens.
Other lots to breach the six-figure mark during the closing session of the Craven Sale included a filly by Helmet’s sire Exceed And Excel who was snapped up by David Redvers for 100,000gns. Offered by Mocklershill, the filly is a half-sister to the G2 winner Prolific.
Late in the session, a Shamardal half-sister to the stakes winner Nantyglo from the outstanding family of Solo de Lune, was bought by BBA Ireland for 110,000gns.
