Five-year-old Dubawi entire Safety Check made a very successful seasonal debut at Meydan on 21 January, recording back-to-back victories in the seven-furlong Al Fahidi Fort.
Sent off as odds-on favourite, Charlie Appleby’s charge was settled in mid-division and always travelling well, began to progress with two furlongs left to run. Taking the lead a furlong out, Safety Check ran on superbly to win by a length and three-quarters.
Safety Check now has nine victories to his name, three of which are at G2 level. Last year he went on to win the G2 Zabeel Mile just over a month after his first Al Fahidi Fort success and will once again be aimed at this race.
Bred by Malih al Basti, Safety Check is out of the unraced Royal Academy mare Doors To Manual, herself a half-sister to G1 winner Marchand de Sable.
Safety Check was one of no fewer than 21 individual Group winners last year for Dubawi, with an astounding 11 of those scoring at G1 level including Night Of Thunder and Hunter’s Light – both new Darley stallions for 2016.
Dubawi stands at Dalham Hall Stud at a fee of £225,000 October 1st SLF, while Night Of Thunder stands at Kildangan Stud at €30,000 October 1st SLF and Hunter’s Light stands as a Darley Club stallion at Haras du Logis at €4,000 October 1st SLF.
