On a busy opening day of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale Book 1, progeny of the Darley stallions were in high demand at Park Paddocks and it was no surprise to see Dubawi feature as the sire of some of the day’s highest prices.
China Horse Club went to 900,000 guineas to secure Dubawi’s daughter of Badee’a (Marju), who has already produced multiple Stakes winner Dunelight, Shamardal’s 2015 Listed winner Sperry, plus Royal Ascot winner Interception (Raven’s Pass). The filly was bred by Corduff Stud.
Earlier in the sale, Highclere Stud’s son of the Group-winning mare Alsindi went to Blandford Bloodstock for 750,000 guineas. Dubawi averaged over 470,000 guineas for his seven yearlings sold yesterday.
Shamardal also posted an impressive set of results, averaging just shy of 425,000 guineas for six sold. His highest price was 550,000 guineas, paid by John Ferguson for New England Stud’s colt out of Assabiyya, from the family of Barathea.
Exceed And Excel ensured he featured in the day’s top ten prices, when Carmel Stud’s filly out of Ballymore Celebre – already dam of a G2 winner in Anjaal – was bought by Shadwell for 600,000 guineas.
The first yearlings by Casamento, Helmet and Sepoy are going through the ring this year and all three posted handsome returns on their covering fee.
Casamento had two sell for 200,000 guineas and 150,000 guineas respectively – a remarkable 35 times his fee.
Helmet had one yearling sell on Tuesday, Powerstown Stud’s colt out of Causeway Song and he brought a final bid of 100,000 guineas and will now join Al Shaqab Racing.
Sepoy also had one yearling to sell and she achieved 250,000 guineas, bought by Tony Nerses from New England Stud.
The sale continues today.
