Jordan Princess becomes the second Stakes winner of the day for Cape Cross
Cape Cross recorded new Black type winners in both hemispheres on 18 July when, just hours after Rugged Cross won the Winter Stakes at Rosehill in Australia, his well-bred four-year-old daughter Jordan Princess landed the Newsells Park Stud Stakes at Newmarket.
Sent straight to the front under Adam Kirby, Luca Cumani’s charge made every yard of the running in the mile-and-a-half contest and kept to her task superbly to win by a length and a half. This was her third career victory and a well-deserved first Stakes win, having come close in four previous contests at Listed and Group level.
Jordan Princess is the second Stakes winner out of Princess Nada, a half-sister to none other than Dubawi. Princess Nada was herself a decent performer, winning the Lord Weinstock Memorial Stakes and finishing third in the G2 Lancashire Oaks (a race that Jordan Princess finished a creditable fourth in earlier this year).
Cape Cross has been enjoying a superb year, with Golden Horn becoming his 11th individual G1 winner when landing the Derby. He went on to better his older rivals in the Eclipse earlier this month and is currently favourite for next Saturday's King George. He is one of 17 individual Stakes performers this year for his sire.
