Daughter of Dubawi is queen of the carnival
Dubawi’s four-year-old daughter Srikandi overcame the extreme outside barrier draw to lead throughout and post consecutive victories at the elite level in the G1 Tattersall’s Club Tiara on the final day of the Queensland winter carnival at the Gold Coast Turf Club, June 20.
A last-start winner of the G1 Stradbroke Handicap, Srikandi was strongly fancied to make it back-to-back G1 victories with her biggest challenger expected to be her paternal half-sister Catkins. However, after jumping well and quickly assuming the lead, Srikandi was always in control and ran out a comfortable winner.
Bred by John Collins, Srikandi is out of Hurricane Sky mare Raining and is a half-sister to G3 winner Rain Gal as well as Stakes performer Arjuna. The win was Srikandi’s ninth in 13 career starts and took her earnings to close to $2.2 million.
Srikandi is the third Group winner for Dubawi this week following the G3 victory of Erupt in the Prix du Lys and Time Test’s G3 triumph in the Tercentary Stakes at Royal Ascot. She is also one of 19 career G1 winners for her sire who is the world’s leading sire of G1 winners, Group winners and Stakes winners this year.
