Sepoy breaks Australian auction record for first-season sire

Colt purchased for AU$1.6m at Inglis Easter Yearling Sale

Red-hot young stallion Sepoy made history on Wednesday when a member of his first crop of southern hemisphere yearlings was purchased for AU$1.6m at the Inglis Easter Yearling Sale in Sydney, the highest price in Australian auction history for a yearling by a first season sire.

Out of the G1-winning mare Ancient Song, the colt was purchased by bloodstock agent James Harron on behalf of Sepoy’s former trainer Peter Snowden and his son Paul.

From the first two sessions of the Easter Yearling Sale, Sepoy’s ten lots sold have averaged AU$387,000, well in advance of the sale average of AU$298,663.

Sepoy is currently standing at Dalham Hall Stud, where his fee this season is £15,000 Oct 1st SLF.
